That's right. Seems like there are a lot of new kids around and everyone wants to start bands but nobody has been organized enough to really do anything. After being out here for about 3 years I've noticed there is a core group of kids who are in bands around here which may or may not be hard to get into (maybe I haven't been trying hard enough? Maybe I don't have enough bass cabs to be in a band in western mass?). Regardless, this is for all you kids who want to start bands so you can get in touch with each other.

What do you play?
What type of jams do you want to play?
What gear do you rub?
Previous/current bands?
Do you have a practice space/house/etc?
Anything else?

What do you play? Bass primarily. I dabble in guitar a bit though. I used to be in possession of a guitar but it belonged to algernon cadwallader so I had to give it back.
What type of jams do you want to play? Mostly pop punk of pretty much any variety. Although playing hardcore, even the ignorant, jock, righteous jams type would be fun too.
What gear do you rub? Fender jazz bass, acoustic 140 head, swr triad 15" cab.
Previous/current bands? I've been in a bunch of shitty bands over the years. Most notably L'antietam: http://www.myspace.com/antietamnh
I've also been goofing around with recording a really lame split with two fake bands I've recorded by myself called Bullet Belt and Beer Shyt. I have instrumental recordings but I assure you they're of no interest to you.
Do you have a practice space/house/etc? no
Anything else? Not really. I can write songs usually but they may/may not be any good. it depends.

What do you play? I can't play anything, but i can sing a little

What type of jams do you want to play? Since Gift Horse is breaking up in november, I'm thinking about doing another band that is somewhat similar. I'd also like to do a hardcore band at some point. Either something super cathartic and scathing and also black flag-esque or something drawing from like battery and mouthpiece.

What gear do you rub?
no gear

Previous/current bands? previous: Helping Hand [myspace.com/xhelpinghandx]
current: Gift Horse - http://www.geocities.com/gifthorse@ymail.com
I was also in a band for one practice in 2000-2001 and we learned for covers for the first practice. The drummer was a really good musician and was frustrated that the guitarists didnt really learn the songs and he had to teach them to him. I think him and the bassist eventually formed a band called "Count Fistula." The songs we had to learn (i know you want to know): Zao - Fifteen Rhema, Boy Sets Fire - Release The Dogs, Hatebreed - Empty Promises, and Poison the Well - Slice Paper Wrists

that band would have ruled... for the record.

Do you have a practice space/house/etc?
I own a house but don't think I have a spot to practice in. Possibly in the future though if I do something with the basement. There aren't outlets down there and half the floor is dirt.

Anything else?
I am putting out a western mass cassette compilation that should be out before the end of the semester! I will post a track listing soon. 14, possibly 16 bands. [also - please don't ask me about other bands getting onto it - i don't want to seem like a douche, but i also don't want to have to make someone feel bad individually. i'm really happy with the tape as is, and i think you guys will all dig it too. <3]

What do you play?
Electric guitar, 6 & 12 string acoustic guitars, and sometimes banjo.

What type of jams do you want to play?
So many different styles that I'll never have the time for. Someday I will record some solo acoustic songs and maybe some banjo tunes. Other projects that have been talked about: 90's style hardcore band, Hum-styled band, Weed Fortress pop punk super group, two piece band with Mike Benoit, Synth guitar prog band with Tyler. I'm sure there's more.

What gear do you rub?
In constant use:
Gibson SG Standard. Marshall JMP through a Marshall 1960b cab. Marshall JCM800 through an Ampeg v-4 with Vintage 30 clone speakers.
Other shit:
Marshall JCM800(dual channel), Marshall JCM2000 TSL60, Ampeg v-4 cab, Fender Deluxe 112 combo amp, Yamaha Pacifica strat copy, Ibanez 6 string acoustic, Madeira 12 string acoustic, no name banjo.

Previous/current bands?
I play guitar in:
Relics (http://www.myspace.com/relicshc)
&
Vaccine (http://vaccinexxx.blogspot.com)

Do you have a practice space/house/etc?
Relics practices at a space in Holyoke. Vaccine practices at Dead Air Studios in Leverett. I live at a house in Hadley that some of my housemates practice at occasionally. We've had about three shows but had to stop after some damages at the last one.

What do you play?
Drums or singing/yelling/screaming.

What type of jams do you want to play?

1. I'd really love to be in a thrashcore/powerviolence or screamo band.
2. Doom or stoner metal
3. Pop punk, or straight up "hardcore punk" would be cool too.
4. Also, into noisier "pop" punk like Japanther, etc.
5. Like folk punk, don't know if I want to be in a folk punk band though.
6. Last but not least, I'm into shit like American Football, Don Cab, Marnie Stern, sweet guitar jams

What gear do you rub?
I have a terrible 3 piece drum kit right now with a hi-hate and crash/ride.
Really haggard, but that's punx, rite?

Previous/current bands?

Nothing of note. Was in an indie/folk band in high school, and I was involved in a three-piece project out of Providence that was really sweet, but we only played one show because I moved for school. Our flier name was Falafesaurus.

Do you have a practice space/house/etc?
I have a house on Pelham road. Could probably be used for practice depending on how loud/what time of the day/whether or not my landlord is going to be home. Definitely not shows.

Anything else?

I've been playing drums for over ten years...while my current set up sounds like shit, I'm really not that bad. I've never sung in a band before, but I like to bum people out, so I think it'd be a good spot for me. Uh, I probably will want to write songs with political/social criticism. Like to keep it posi too. I am vegan, anarchist, will love to write songs about both of those things, but they don't have to be if y'all aren't down with that.

new kids: if you're starting a band in western ma its going to be screamo no matter what. there is an impenetrable forcefield of screamo dust enveloping the valley. sqrm is screamo, aerosols are screamo, thurston is screamo, and no matter what michael says, relics are definitely screamo, no matter how much tech metal marinade they put the riffs in.

What do you play?
Drums

What type of jams do you want to play?
-currently i've been itching to start a pv/fastcore typish band. think Scholastic deth, coke bust, what happens next, infest, etc. not so much like the fast to heavy slow part bands.
-i'd also love to play some crust/d-beat stuff, to the likes of disrupt, his hero is gone, skitsystem, ekkaia, etc.

i love drumming so i'd probably be down to drum in any sort of project

What gear do you rub?
pdp lx shells, gretsch snare, mix of zildjian/sabian cymbals, dw 5000 hardware

Previous/current bands?
i've played for a mix of hardcore and punk bands/projects, most notably The Effort and The Bonus Army

Do you have a practice space/house/etc?
no

Anything else?
i love to talk/discuss drum gear. if there's any other drum nerds out there get at me.

Thrashcore=Youth attack
Thrashcore=Skateboards
Thrashcore=http://www.625thrash.com
Thrashcore=/=metalcore
Thrashcore=Early D.R.I.

Crossover thrash post-metal pre-grindcore.

Duh.

Thrash:
Ramming Speed, Municipal Waste, Battlemaster, Metallica, Slayer - Beer is absolutely necessary

Thrashcore:
Vitamin X, Punch, Septic Death, Older Neg Approach - Beer is not necessary, and sometimes not allowed

I don't really know what the difference between PV and thrashcore is. But you can hear it, man. Or something.
