"I think they're cool, but I don't have enough to spend on a record player. I have other things I'm saving up for.
And to be honest, I'm not a punk. Punk is one of my favorite genres of music, and DIY is really impressive, but I wouldn't call myself a punk at all.
Definitely not in terms of appearance, and only a little bit in terms of ideologies."

You tell that to all the non-whites at shows and in bands. And all of their trustfund money paying for them to tour and buy ripped clothes to appear to not be rich.

Also, Galanis thinks it's punk to send emails constantly to his fellow punks/bandmates and be a director/manager of what goes on.

a) The internet is so punk - explaining why it isn't on my things punks don't like list.

b) What am I telling them?

c) I just said that those bands with trustfunds aren't punk. I determine who and what is punk, not anyone else.

d) For the sake of being anti-racist punx could we try saying "people of color" instead of defining groups by what they're not?! Thus continuing the acceptence of the normalcy of whiteness and the other-ness imposed on people of color?! AHGHHHHHHHHHHHH

"Write riffs for practice because that's what we need to do. I know I'm only the singer, but I'm the manager, so do as you're told slave or suffer the consequences." DIRECT quote.

And it's punk to complain about work schedules because working isn't punk...unless you have a set schedule!

And my non-rich upbringing taught me to say "non-whites" because I'm bad at being punk. As explained in MY post! UH.

To me punk is all about autonomy and rejecting social authority for your own freedom. It is about being self-reliant and self-aware of your freedom and about trying to just get on in this world without giving up what you want to do or believe in. As we can see, as age increases, the number of punks decreases. That is because these people give up on their dreams and give in to authority. Very few people stay punk after their 30s.

In summary, punk is about rejecting authority and realizing your freedom. Of course there are other political elements, mostly radical leftist stuff.

Note: It sounds kind of existentialist in a way, but punk is a post-modern movement much like existentialism.

I am arguing with rollerblades simply because I thought Brink! was a good movie and because playing hockey on rollerblades is fun. Other than that, everything is pretty much true.

Also, everything that Constantinos said. Basically sums it up for me.

I forgot to mention that punk is not a fashion or a fad. It is an outlook on life and an attitude like i explained in my above post.

On a side note: soletsgoNOWHERE, are you a fan of ASOB? I am from Long Island and they where basically my hometown heros. They are mad cool dudes, on the most part.

What is punk?
first of all I think it's really important to clarify what exactly we're talking about, because many contradictory things have been called punk (for instance, hardline and folk punk). I personally think it's more the case that there was something that punk is more a social heritage than it is any solid or identifiable set of beliefs or sounds or conditions or whatever.

Constantinos Wrote:punk is a post-modern movement much like existentialism.

explain what you mean by this? I always kind of thought of punk as a more modernist movement - individualism and that.

This is an adventure.
