so I know there are a million boards like this and pretty much everyone hates them. I know about spawntildie but half those kids don't even live in western mass anymore.

anyway, the idea for this came out of the lack organization and community there is around here. the whole purpose of this board is pretty much to help organize and spread the word about activities (parties, shows, dinners, potlucks and so on) for us to do whatever together and hopefully meet new people too. so I know this is a dumb idea but maybe/hopefully people will use it.

also, it's one am on a wednesday and I'm drunk and have class in a few hours so if this is incoherent I'm sorry.

I think this is a great idea. What wasn't a great idea was the terms of use. Although I agreed to it, I certainly won't be able to follow through with it. Has anyone ever heard me go 5 minutes without saying something vulgar or offensive? But I think we're all in agreement that more ill shit needs to happen around here.

P.S.: It didn't even work on facebook, and that works in an even easier and less-of-a-hassle design (aka, people don't need another website to sign up for and visit. they're all already on facebook and get nifty notations for when dickbags request their presence.)

Also, don't be bummed out when you hope that the VAST people that fit into the "community" that is sought after, don't show up to half of the events and/or just quickly stop caring after showing some excitement in this. This is wmass, not somewhere fun. (enter city pride here. no, not kitty pride. queermo.)

Is it worth a shot? I guess. But we've seen these things COLLAPSE hard.

We never said it was going to be the fix all solution to all of "Amherst Punks" problems or that we were hoping it would "work", if anything this calendar is more for a small group of UMass kids to keep each other informed about the dinners and shows we all go to (off the top of my head: Tim, Tony, Mike, Nathan, Edy, Constatinos, sometimes Rob and Dalhia and now more recently Joe [if i'm forgetting anyone its because its 6am]) so yes while that might be cliquey, we're all still quite interested in meeting new people. If it grows out of that great, if it doesn't still fine.

Also uh, you don't need to sign up for anything to visit the calendar? You do however have to sign up for facebook to view events and you don't even get nifty html either. Check out the section for your show coming up. I'm going to try and add on google maps somehow too so you just click a link and go to the address.

In fact, I fully expect people to not engage in conversation or join the message board, if people just lurk the calendar then this is worth it (no sweat of my back, my friend has 300 gigs of transfer bandwidth per month, right now he's using .01% of that) this whole thing is modeled after my hometown site sandiegopunk.com's show section. I don't post on that message board and I don't need to, i'm content with just looking at a calendar. Another example would be the chula vista hardcore board.

Not going to be bummed, we're maintaining a calendar dude, not playing or organizing any of the events. It's clearly not our business to force people to come to a show... but it'll make knowing about shows easier, I'm guilty of wanting things to be convenient and at the very least I want Hampshire kids to start updating the calendar for Hampshire shows so I can find out of them.

I love San Diego but Amherst is pretty great too.

Also, I'm going to reiterate my response to what seems to be your constant "not caring" concern: it's seriously no sweat off my back if timmy stops caring about the board. He could decide to ban everyone tomorrow and I'll laugh for all about 5 seconds then go on with my day.

I'll respond to these all at once:
- Not created by me and my name should pretty much not be associated at all with this venture. I had some free space, I let Tim use it. Thats about as far as my involvement goes. I probably wont even be posting much, I just want to use the calendar. My schedule is pretty busy this semester (all my classes are Mon and Wed, one of them is accounting 521) so I'll probably be dropping out of life in a month or two.
- Didn't and don't expect everyone to be "nice" to each other. People can disagree and I expect them to but they can do it in a relatively civil manner. You're pretty much shitting all over this and I love it (no sarcasm).
- Never said I was punk, don't care enough to. All I listened to over winter break was the radio (big booty jams, top 40 radio, and NPR.), study corporate/business law and try and get my handgun certification. I love guns. Is that not punk too? Don't care.
- Again, i know you probably wrote this tongue-in-cheek or maybe you didn't but, a bit dramatic don't you think? For something thats been alive all of 7 hours those are some strong feelings either which way. And no I'm not saying this to be snobby as I honestly love it just like I love reading your bulletins for Relics. It's entertaining and you brought up valid points/questions that needed to be addressed.

Also I just added some more shows and standardized everything, when you post shows from now on do you think you can write it like i have it set up? So the format would be something like "Show: Blah blah blah blah" for the title and "Show (Out of town): Blah blah blah blah" if the show is like 40+ minutes away from downtown amherst and for the actual body do it like:

Venue

Bands (add links to myspaces)

Time
Price

Flyer (Optional)"

im into this. and the boston shows rob posted are good. it's nice knowing who's going where for carpool purposes. and hopefully seeing a calender full of shows in boston will make it more obvious how lacking w-mass shows are at the moment.

as for spawntildie, that shit crashes too often, and no one really uses the "shows" section.
